Yesterday, I was having a conversation with a friend of mine who had never heard the term Cougar until he watched the
Saturday Night Live skit featuring Ashton Kutcher and Cameron Diaz called
the Cougar Den. He asked me if a Cougar was basically a Sugar Mommy. My answer was "It depends...".
First, let's look at the #1 definition of a Cougar from UrbanDictionary.com. It says, a Cougar is "An older woman who frequents clubs in order to score with a much younger man. The cougar can be anyone from an overly surgically altered wind tunnel victim, to an absolute sad and bloated old horn-meister, to a real hottie or milf. Cougars are gaining in popularity -- particularly the true hotties -- as young men find not only a sexual high, but many times a chick with her shit together."
By this definition, a Cougar is not necessarily a Sugar Mommy, but rather an older and most of the time attractive woman who enjoys hanging out with and having sex with much younger men. But, the last line of the definition above does suggest that Cougars are similar to Sugar Mommies because they usually do have their "shit together." To me, this means they aren't worrying about money, and if they like their "prey", the relationship will turn into one similar to a Sugar Mommy/Sugar Baby one.
One dating site that caters specifically to Cougars and their prey is
DateACougar.com. I took a good look around the site, and there are a number of very attractive Cougars on the site as well as a lot of younger men hoping to be "attacked". You'll also find a huge number of Cougars on sites like
SugarDaddyForMe.com and
AshleyMadison.com.
So, ultimately, my answer to my friend was that Cougars could be called Sugar Mommies, but more than likely, most Cougars are just out for sex with younger men, and not necessarily interested in helping them out financially. But, Cougars will take control of the relationship, which means they're definitely more like Sugar Mommies than anything else.
However you define them, you can rest assured that when you're in a relationship with a Cougar, you're in for the ride of your life. So, just hang on and enjoy the ride, because it's more than likely not going to last that long because Cougars enjoy the hunt more than anything else.
Good luck and happy hunting!
